Even though the pope has no real power over anything, so that title is quite invalid in today's society. If you were the pope back when man started killing eachother in the name of their god, and where the Papacy would elect you and you can easily force other countries to bow to your feet or excommunicate them (read up on what happened to Henry VI when he was excommunicated). Then you would be absolutely scary for all of man to fear. There may even be a Barbarossa that will rise up in the future that will cause worries.
