Sunrider
It's been a very long time since I posted here, but I just noticed a game on Steam Greenlight that reminds me a bit of Galaxy Angel. Here's the relevant link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =202638470The battle system looks a bit unimpressive but games similar to Galaxy Angel are rare enough that I can't be too picky.

Re: Sunrider
True point, perhaps it has potential? Of course, it could also fail catastrophically, but it may be worth keeping an eye on.
Perhaps the infrequency of similar games is due to its strange status as a hybrid of dating sim and real time strategy game, which is, admittedly, not a combination I would have expected in general.

Re: Sunrider
True, but rarely in games are you allowed to skip the battles. While its not the main point of the game, it IS rather important to the plot itself. Besides, the battles were rather interesting.

Re: Sunrider
I meant more in the sense of advancing the plot than of affecting it. As well being in the military is sorta Tact's reason for being there, as well as a few other things. Its more related to the setting itself than it is the events that transpire within the setting, if that makes any sense. Really, that's common? Well, I haven't really played many visual novel type games, so, I wouldn't know.

Re: Sunrider
For what I can gather on steam and its hatred of japanese gaming culture, it's got less to do with preffered taste, and more to do with what society views japan as from the outside, which is hentai, perversion, stories that don't make sense and, on occasion, a complete sense of alienation in more culturally strict games. By comparison, look at how huge game companies such as Capcom, Namco-Bandai and From Software are over here. They, too, are Japanese Gaming Culture, BUT, and I stress but, they have such a strong history of storylines, characters and settings that are agreeable to the mild mannered sensibilities of your average teen to middle aged gaming male/female, that in the end, when they do launch culture strong games such as Okami, we automatically accept it, because it's capcom. Consider how many huge western developers exist in America, but barely make a dent in Japan, due to the standard of gaming there being ruled over by games created by companies such as Broccoli(bad example, Broccoli is a dying brand, soon, the entire corpse will be eaten by animate)

Valve is about the only Western game company I know of...actually.

Re: Sunrider
Well, there's Lionhead, who's responsible for the fable series of games, gearbox, and by extension, 2k, Volition, with thq/deep silver. Compared to how huge the games these distributor/producer companies put out get in the west, in japan, they receive a much more niche following

Re: Sunrider
Let us all remember the holocaust of Japanese pop-culture reputation with the release of for all the suffering of law restrictions, the contempt of limited imports, and the thrill of seclusion from society, towards our galge-player-brethren all over the world!
We shall never forget.
